Running shoes will be king this weekend, between the cities of Murten and Fribourg. The runners of the 92nd edition of the famous Morat-Fribourg race will set off on Sunday morning to cover the 17.17 kilometers linking the two cities (see box). But before that, several shorter races will allow everyone to participate in this great sporting event, including people with disabilities.
The Unified Run will bring together participants of all ages, regardless of their physical condition, on a 1.3 kilometer course free of any obstacles. As a family, alone or accompanied, on foot, in a wheelchair or with a stroller, they will be able to enjoy this race which includes everyone and has obtained the Swiss Inclusive Sport label.
This organization aims to make sport more inclusive and accessible to everyone, regardless of their socioeconomic situation, sexual orientation, disability or specific needs. “Sport still too often focuses on competition and performance,” remarks Gabriel Currat, co-director of Swiss Inclusive Sport.
Since the time when Pierre de Coubertin relaunched the Olympic Games in their modern form, and more generally when sport was above all designed for healthy people, society has evolved greatly. This development is also being felt in sport, but clubs and events do not always know how to integrate it. Swiss Inclusive Sport offers them audits and recommendations in order to improve their inclusiveness. Support, awareness and training are part of the services offered by the organization.
Thanks to the support of Loterie Romande, Swiss Inclusive Sport supports numerous clubs and sporting events free of charge each year in their inclusion efforts. At the same time, it develops collaborations with cantons and municipalities in order to sustainably structure the development of inclusive sport and strengthen its impact on a local and regional scale.
Each year, Loterie Romande pays all of its profits to 5,000 public utility projects in the six French-speaking cantons. In 2025, nearly 10 million francs supported associations in the field of health and disability, and nearly 42 million francs financed projects in the field of sport.
Morat-Fribourg begins this evening with the Race of the Bold, which will be launched at nightfall as a fun after-work event in the city of Fribourg. Tomorrow, still in the Friborg capital, children will be able to take part in the Mini Morat-Fribourg on courses ranging from 550 meters to 2.7 kilometers, depending on their age. The Famigros Run & Win will welcome families at the same time and on the same 1.3 kilometer loop as the Unified Run.
On Sunday, the 17.17 kilometer race will start from Murten at 9 a.m. The start of the 9.65 kilometer course will take place at 10:48 a.m. in Courtepin. The walkers will take the same departures from the same places and the trail runners will leave Morat at 8:40 a.m. for a 26 kilometer nature race.
Note that the Agy plateau, at the northern entrance to Fribourg, will host new activities in the partner spaces with, for the first time, a section with music in the form of a Running Jukebox. Morat Fribourg, like Swiss Inclusive Sport, benefits from the support of Loterie Romande.
